Content, Content, Content.
One of the challenges with building a site is collecting all of the content – even if you already have it available -and getting it web ready and posted. Over the years I’ve produced so much stuff that tracking it all down, organizing it and getting it into my website has turned into a real mountain of work. There are all kinds of challenges to overcome – file format, file size, readiness of content, streamability of the content… the list goes on.
There are some things, like old paintings that I did, that were made at various times throughout my life, none of which were planning on doing all of this today, and none of which was formatted for a website. Thus, apart from simply putting it online, much of the time I’m having to take it in to Photoshop, Nuke, Davinci Resolve, Illustrator, or whatever else, just to get it the right dimensions, or the right file size to be ready for the web.
Even here, the sizes are all different, and neither of them conform to any particular dimensions. This goes for the video content as well. Videos need placeholder images of various sizes for varying web pages. Take for example the following:
Each of these are different sizes and dimensions, and those aren’t the only variations of that imagery. Furthermore, those are just placeholder images for a few different videos that they relate to. The thing of it is, I have to do that for much of the content on my site. Fortunately, Photoshop has programmable Actions that I can use to automate a lot of that, but even still, it’s work that has to be done just to get the simplest of things posted to the website.
There will be plenty more of this to do in the future. My next task is getting all of my admin pages rebuilt. If it’s not one thing, it’s another.
